Binh Phuoc (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 20 hailed Binh Phuoc province’s efforts to seek new markets as a crucial step towards expanding production and fostering growth, affirming this way would help attract potential investors.

Speaking at a working session with provincial leaders within the framework of his visit to the southern province, PM Phuc noted that Binh Phuoc’s Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) remains low, ranking 62nd out of the country’s 63 provinces and cities in 2017.

The government leader asked the province to exert more efforts to improve its index ranking and business environment.

Its high poverty rate is also a problem that needs to be addressed, he added, stressing the need to pay attention to building trademarks for local agricultural products.

The PM urged the province to focus on preventing all kinds of crimes to ensure a peaceful life for local people and to serve economic development. He emphasised that by building a peaceful borderline, favourable conditions would be created for trade activities and economic cooperation.

PM Phuc expressed his hope that Binh Phuoc will concentrate further on developing the private economic sector, attracting more investment in agriculture, and protecting forests.

He also requested ministries to work with the province and provide support during its socio-economic development process.

With a low starting point as a poor province after its re-establishment in 1997, Binh Phuoc has made constant efforts to develop and become one of the eight key localities in the southern economic zone.

The province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached 6.64 percent in the first half of 2018, while State budget collection was valued at 4.9 trillion VND (215.8 million USD) in the first seven months of the year.-VNA
