Under the theme of “ Better City , Better Life”, the exposition willfocus on scientific and technological innovations and urban life in the 21stcentury. The six-month long event, scheduled to open on May 1, will attractparticipants from nearly 200 countries and 50 international organisations.Approximately 70 million visitors, including 3.5 million foreigners, areexpected to visit the expo.
Chinese President Hu Jintao and his invitedHeads of State and Government will attend the inauguration ceremony. The ChineseGovernment has spent 45 billion yuan (6.7 billion USD) on expo organisation.
Vietnam has been provided with 1,000 square metres of the floor area toshowcase its products and achievements to promote the image of its land, peopleand development potential.
The comprehensive strategic cooperativepartnership between Vietnam and China has been strengthened and developed inrecent time. The two countries have agreed to take 2010 as the Friendship Yearmarking the 60 th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Various activities have beencarried out to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
Since 2004,China has been one of Vietnam ’s leading trade partners. In 2007, the two-waytrade hit nearly 16 billion USD, beating the 15 billion USD target set for 2010.Despite the global economic turmoil, bilateral trade reached more than 21billion USD last year and nearly 5.4 billion USD in the first quarter of 2010.The two countries have agreed to raise the figure to 25 billion USD in 2010.
New progress has been seen in bilateral investment ties, with many majorChinese groups showing their interest to invest in Vietnam . As of mid-March2010, China had 681 operational projects in Vietnam capitalised at 2.73 billionUSD, ranking 15th among 89 foreign countries and territories investing in thecountry.
The Hua Dong area, which comprises Shanghai city, Jiangsu andZhejiang provinces with a total population of over 170 million, is one of China’s largest economic and financial hubs.
All-round cooperation betweenVietnam and Shanghai has flourished in recent years. The Chinese city has openedits air and sea routes to Vietnam , and its businesses have won big constructionbids in the Southeast Asian country.
Two-way trade between Vietnam andShanghai fetched 1.46 billion USD last year, and Shanghai established thefriendly ties with Ho Chi Minh City in 1994.
Jiangsu has establishedcooperative ties with 194 provinces and cities of 42 countries, includingVietnam ’s Dong Nai province in 1995. Total import-export value between Vietnamand Jiangsu surpassed 2.1 billion USD in 2009.
Meanwhile, Zhejiang has134 businesses investing 287 million USD in projects in Vietnam . In turn, 22Vietnamese businesses are investing in Zhejiang with total capital of 21.7million USD. The two-way trade last year fetched more than 1.4 billion USD./.
