Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Education and Training will conduct thorough studies and take appropriate actions in the education sector to minimize negative impact, and effectively promote the positive impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT.

The impact of AI on education and the role of teachers, learners and educational management policies were the main content of the seminar "ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence - Benefits and challenges for education." The seminar was organized by the Vietnam Academy of Educational Sciences on February 13.

Tabled at the talk were two topics: AI and the future of education, and AI in the context of educational innovation.

A representative of the Ministry of Education and Training said AI is not only a trend but is having a profound impact on society. Applying AI contributes to improving work and learning productivity and efficiency, meets social development, and better serves people's lives. The strong development of AI will shape the educational future of all countries in the world.

Besides many benefits, experts emphasized, ChatGPT also raises concerns about ethical issues and academic integrity. Like other AI tools, Chat GPT still has limitations in accuracy and ability to handle complex or abstract information. It lacks "sensitivity" to cultural issues, and risks becoming an agent of academic fraud. Students can easily use ChatGPT to complete their essays in tests and assessments. Besides, the abuse of ChatGPT can make students lazy and blunt skills in expressing personal opinions.

The seminar aimed to create a forum for educational administrators, policymakers, researchers, scholars and teachers to discuss and share views on the influence of AI and the future of education. It also aimed to strengthen the cooperation between experts, teachers and administrators to find solutions to educational problems and map out plans for the future use and application of AI.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said in the past teachers had the privilege of spreading knowledge, but with the advent of technology, the role of teachers is increasingly changing.

With ChatGPT, the issue is how to have policy support and management to promote the positive features as well as limit the negatives of this technology. The seminar aimed to clarify these impacts, from the educational programme to the role of the teachers, the approach to learning materials and knowledge of the learners, especially the personalization and individualization of learners.

“The role of the teacher is changing, but how will it change to not only adapt but also embrace technology? How should learners change and how should education policies adapt? Those are the issues that the Ministry of Education and Training wants experts, education managers, teachers from educational institutions, and research institutes to have an open exchange. On that basis, the ministry will review and adjust policies accordingly,” said Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son.

The seminar attracted a large number of experts in the fields of education and technology./.
