Hanoi (VNA) - Experts predict that AI will soon become more intelligent and bring even more surprises to humans. This has led many to question whether AI will cause writers, poets, and journalists "lose their jobs" and what content creators need to do to preserve their identity in today's technological era.
Unable to replace creative labour
Regarding the risk of AI threatening the livelihoods of writers and poets, Nguyen Phong Viet, a poet and critic, believed that such concerns are valid.
He argued that for those who do not possess truly strong writing skills and those who cannot produce emotionally rich and visually evocative sentences, the influence of ChatGPT is significant.
Echoing the view, Nguyen Thi Quy Phuong, CEO of the Hanoi-based QP Vietnam Consulting, analysed that millions of users providing information to the vast dataset of ChatGPT contribute to the continuous improvement of its ability to extract information and utilise language.
She believed that human creativity does not solely rely on data. Although rich information and deep understanding of culture and society are essential prerequisites for writers, creativity stems from genuine emotions, from resonating with the times and human identity, from life experiences, and from benevolence.
Do Anh Vu, a linguistics expert, stated that in reality, artificial intelligence demonstrates the development of science and technology, with newer versions always outperforming their predecessors. However, it is still a machine created by humans and cannot replace humans’ creative labour.
According to Vu, creations with unique personal experiences can only be done by humans and no machine can replace that.
Turning AI into an “assistant”
Poet Van Cong Hung, a member of the Vietnamese Writers' Association, held that instead of fear, humans need to adapt, learn, and leverage the advantages of machines to serve their lives. ChatGPT is a machine, a tool, and how it is utilized is up to humans.
Speaking about the application of ChatGPT in life, poet Nguyen Phong Viet considered it an excellent tool for reference.
"When facing a media campaign, I ask myself what I need to do, for which audience, and how to carry it out. ChatGPT, with its vast database, provides me with a wealth of information. From there, I can refine it to find content suitable for my work," shared the young poet.
Do Anh Vu, meanwhile, mentioned that newsrooms can use AI to quickly write articles, such as weather reports, COVID-19 case summaries, or sports developments updates. However, journalists and editors cannot completely rely on the content generated by AI.
Regarding the advantages of ChatGPT, Phuong believed that its vast data repository and fast processing speed make ChatGPT a powerful "assistant" for those who need to process, consolidate, and analyse a huge amount of information for their work.
ChatGPT provides options based on common criteria, including accuracy, logic, and societal common sense. Phuong said that this feature makes it quite safe when used in education as a readily available source of analyzed and synthesized reference materials for learners and researchers. ChatGPT can also serve as a perfect secretary for regular text transactions, such as responding to partners' simple confirmation requests in formal and social contexts./.
