Vientiane (VNA) – The Academy of Politics of the Lao People’s Public Security, a gift from the Vietnamese Party, Government, and Ministry of Public Security to the Lao Ministry of Public Security, is gradually proving its role in helping improve the professional capacity, political mettle, and revolutionary ethics of Lao public security officers to meet growing requirements in the new context.

Vonethong Duangchanphom, a student of the academy, told the Vietnam News Agency that it is his honour to study at this school. The knowledge and experiences he has acquired here could contribute to his unit as well as the development of Laos, helping nurture the traditional relations between the two public security forces and their countries at large.

Echoing the view, Landone Inthavong, another student, said she hopes to gain much new knowledge while studying here to help develop her unit and Laos. She also expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Government for assisting her country to build this school with all necessary equipment.

Lieutenant Colonel Soulilid Sangkathip, a lecturer of the academy, said the establishment, whose construction was funded with non-refundable aid from Vietnam, is provided with modern equipment to serve teaching and learning.

He said he wishes to devote his utmost to the training of cadres who will continue the work of the Lao Party and State while also contributing to the special Vietnam - Laos ties, founded by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane, and Souphanouvong and nurtured by generations of both countries’ leaders.

Lecturers and students of the academy will boost teaching and learning efforts to deserve the gift from the Vietnamese Party and Government, uphold the two countries’ revolutionary causes, and develop the special ties in a more substantive and effective manner, he added.

The Academy of Politics of the Lao People’s Public Security, covering 6.5ha, provides training for 1,200 students each year. The Vietnamese side has also helped design lesson plans, textbooks, and teaching materials and sent experts to assist the school.

At the inauguration ceremony in September 2023, then Minister of Public Security To Lam, who is now Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam, affirmed that Vietnam always stands side by side with the Lao public security force during the development of Laos as well as the safeguarding of political security and social order and safety in both countries, thus helping successfully carry out the resolutions of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

General Vilay Lakhamphong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, stressed the significance of the academy’s headquarters, which is a landmark of the comprehensive cooperation between the Parties, States, and public security forces of the countries.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency, Vice Chairman of the Laos - Vietnam Cooperation Committee Viengsavanh Vilayphone highly valued the project, which not only has high quality but was also completed ahead of schedule thanks to the attention and directions from Vietnamese leaders, including leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and To Lam himself.

He described the academy as a historic turning point of the traditional cooperation in personnel training between the two countries' public security forces./.
