Polypropylene plant to be completed in May

A polypropylene plant in the central province of Quang Ngai will officially be handed over to its investor, PetroVietnam, by the end of May.

Director ofHyundai, the plant’s main contractor, Hyeon Sung Hong said on March 18that 99.45 percent of the construction is complete and production ofthe first polypropylene products on a trial basis is scheduled to beginby the end of April.

With an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes, the plant, which is thefirst petrochemical project located at the Dung Quat oil refinerycomplex is being built at a cost of nearly 3 trillion VND (roughly 166million USD).

It will use propylene refined by Dung Quat oil refinery to producepolypropylene (PP), which is widely used in the manufacture of autos,power, packing and other items serving daily life./.

Accordingly, the environmental protection tax on petrol (excluding ethanol), diesel, kerosene, mazut, and aviation fuel has been cut to 0 VND per litre. These products are also exempt from VAT declaration and payment, while still eligible for input VAT credit.
