Hanoi (VNA) – More farmers have recently sold their products online in both domestic and foreign markets thanks to the support of postal service suppliers in putting farm produce on e-commerce platforms and promote digital agriculture.

Ha Phong Cooperative in Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district of Hoa Binh province is developing about 150 hectares of orange farms with a total output of about 1,000 tonnes. Instructed by postal staff, the cooperative has opened a “digital booth” on Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post)’s online e-commerce platform postmart.vn, which has become a new and effective sale channel.

To help farmers get used to selling their products online, staff from postal service suppliers have given direct guidance to them right at their farms.

Deputy head of the Vietnam Post’s Information and Communication Division Nghiem Tuan Anh said that along with direct instructions at farms, Vietnam Post has given online training to farmers through social networks to help them master the procedures of selling products on e-commerce platforms.

Meanwhile, Cao Cam Linh, Strategic Director at Viettel Post, said the firm has provided both direct and online training to over 2.5 million farmers. Along with the process of putting products online, farmers have been instructed to take photos of their products and conduct livestreams to interact with their customers, she said, adding that Viettel Post staff have also came to farms to guide farmers how to choose high quality products and make proper packaging to ensure the products are delivered to customers in best conditions.

Director of the Innovation Research & Branding Division of Vietnam Post Phan Trong Le said that so far, postmart has put products by over 2.5 million farmer households online and helped sell over 20,000 tonnes of farm produce.

At the same time, Viettel Post has also supported more than 2 million farmer households to sell 12,884 tonnes of products through over 36,000 transactions. Particularly, with the assistance of Vietnam Post and Viettel Post, Bac Giang’s thieu lychee have been made available in foreign markets.

This year, Vietnam Post aims to support another 2.5 million farmer households to sell their products through postmart.vn, using its network covering all the 63 localities nationwide and 13,000 booths for farm produce introduction.

Viettel Post also plans to bring products of 5 million farmer households to its e-commerce platform Voso.vn, while continuing to provide training on digital transformation to farmers to help them expand their business.

According to the Post Administration under the Ministry of Information and Communications, major postal service suppliers have been experienced in transporting many kinds of farm produce and successfully built their logistics model specialising for agricultural products in both domestic and foreign markets. Thanks to their strengths in wide networks connecting communes and wards, they can work directly with farmers, thus making agricultural products’ prices more competitive./.
