Ea Trang commune in M’Drak district was once one of the three most disadvantaged localities within Dak Lak province until local authorities came to issue a forest planting policy.
Ea Trang commune has formed a team of officials to raise awareness amongst local residents, focusing on planting crops and effectively exploring suitable products towards forestry protection. The local authority has also worked closely with traders to ensure local acacia products are bought in.
The forestry planting policy, under which ineffective trees are replaced with higher-profit ones, has also increased forest coverage on thousands of hectares of bare hills in the commune. Thanks to the policy, forests are better protected and the livelihood of local farmers has been vastly improved. –VNA
