Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang hosted Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam Saleh Abidi in Hanoi on October 4, saying Vietnam places importance to the upcoming visit by President Hassan Rouhani.

He expressed his belief that the visit will be a crucial hallmark and bring the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries to the next level.

Ambassador Saleh Abidi said with its strengths in nanotechnology and cell and space technologies, Iran wishes to partner with Vietnam in these fields.

Iran is determined to raise its two-way trade and economic cooperation with Vietnam, the diplomat said.

Also on the day, the President welcomed Hitoshi Kato, President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association of Sakai city.

He said he is delighted with the enhanced cooperation between the Japanese city and Vietnamese localities, and called for the expansion of local ties.

The President underscored the Vietnamese State’s policy of paying heed to broadening exchanges and affiliations between the two countries’ localities, seeing it as an important factor to bolster the extensive strategic partnership.

He hailed Hitoshi Kato and Sakai city’s Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association for contributing to accelerating economic relations and people-to-people exchanges.

He gave special estimations to the project on transferring tuna fishing techniques and equipment to fishermen in central Binh Dinh province carried out by Hitoshi Kato and the Association, suggesting expanding it to Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces.

The Japanese guest expressed his belief that when the project enters the second year, Binh Dinh’s fishermen will mater tuna fishing and preserving techniques to add higher value to the fish.-VNA
