Hanoi (VNA) - President Tran Dai Quang lauded external economic activities andtrade promotion abroad during a meeting in Hanoi on March 1 with 45 commercialcounsellors and chiefs of Vietnamese commercial offices overseas. 

He said incompliance with the Party and State’s external policies, the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade has worked closely with ministries, agencies and localities topopularise Vietnamese goods, attract foreign investment and improve thecompetitiveness of Vietnamese firms at home and abroad.

According tohim, the Vietnamese commercial offices abroad have helped step up exports,especially typical farm produce and fruits, towards bringing Vietnamese goodsto global distribution chains and marketing trademarks of Vietnamese goodsabroad.

They have partneredwith domestic and foreign agencies to successfully hold trade and investmentpromotion conferences and seminars, as well as business forums during high-levelvisits by Party and State leaders.

The leaderhailed Vietnamese commercial offices abroad as an effective bridge connectingVietnamese entrepreneurs overseas with domestic firms, and cooperate withdomestic and foreign media to argue against information unbeneficial toVietnam’s exported farm produce.

ThePresident noted that as 2018 is a core year to implement the Resolution adoptedby the 12th National Party Congress and the National Assembly’sResolution on the 2016-2020 socio-economic development plan, the industry andtrade sector and Vietnamese commercial offices abroad in particular need tostay active, proactive and drastic to fulfill assigned tasks.

He askedcommercial counsellors and chiefs of Vietnamese commercial offices overseas toactively grasp situations in the host countries, improve market forecast topromptly give policy recommendations to Vietnam and help Vietnamese goods sustainablynavigate foreign markets.

They werealso urged to push forward the ratification of signed new-generation free tradeagreements and call on the Vietnamese business community abroad to look towardthe homeland, thus contributing to national development.-VNA

The draft resolution seeks to lure more investment into cultural industries, aiming for the sector to contribute 7% to GDP by 2030 and 9% by 2045. It also sets ambitious goals of ranking Vietnam among the top three countries in Southeast Asia and the global top 30 for national soft power.

Pathways to double-digit growth to be tabled at 16th NA’s first session

In the morning sitting on April 20, deputies are expected to hear proposals and verification reports on a range of draft resolutions. The documents cover breakthrough mechanisms and policies for the development of Vietnamese culture; the establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally run city; a pilot framework for public lawyer institution; and special mechanisms to address land law violations committed prior to the 2024 Land Law taking effect, alongside measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.
