President Truong Tan Sang on December 14 visited and presented gifts tovictims of the recent floods in three districts of the centralprovince of Quang Ngai.
He praised authorities andlocals in districts of Son Ha, Tu Nghia and Nghia Hanh for theirsolidarity and mutual support in efforts to rebuild after the disaster.
The leader reminded them to make preparations for futureflooding, with a top focus to residential planning and afforestation.
Apart from necessities like rice and food, Quang Ngai shouldprovide the locals with all necessary farming tools and seeds to restoreproduction, he stressed.
On the occasion, President Sangand the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society presentedgifts to 120 storm-hit families and 320 cows to local residents.
The floods, which submerged 70 communes in the region under 2-4m ofwater on November 15 and 16, killed 15 local residents, swept away 130houses, damaged nearly 500 classrooms and 4,000 ha of rice and otherfood crops. Total losses amounted to 1 trillion VND (around 47.6 millionUSD).
The provincial authorities have asked the centralgovernment for 4,000 tonnes of rice and seedlings, and 350 billion VND(16 million USD) in aid to rebuild houses, roads and recoverproduction.-VNA
