Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is scheduled to leave Hanoi on October 8 afternoon for Brunei’s capital Bandar Seri Begawan to attend the 23rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings at the invitation of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
The PM is accompanied by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the Vietnam ASEAN senior official meeting (SOM) delegation Pham Quang Minh and other officials.
The meetings, to take place over three days, are taking place at a time when ASEAN is determined to step up the process of building the ASEAN Community and regional connectivity with a focus on the people.
ASEAN has recorded a number of important achievements, with strengthened solidarity in the group, enhanced and deepened external relations and elevated role and voice in common important issues in the region.
However, the organisation is facing some challenges, especially in ensuring the community building progress, setting up a vision for the bloc beyond 2015 and solving issues in the region in a harmonious manner.
Vietnam’s delegation participate in the meeting with the resolve to join hands with other ASEAN members and the ASEAN Chair to further strengthen ASEAN’s central role in the evolving regional architecture and build a regional environment of peace, security, stability, cooperation and development while boosting the country’s bilateral ties with its partners.-VNA
