Prime Minister meets with Cambodian National Assembly President

The Vietnamese government leaderdescribed the Cambodian delegation’s participation in the IPU-132 as animportant contribution to the event’s success as well as the twocountries’ friendship and all-faceted cooperation.

Vietnam will exert all efforts to intensify bilateral collaborationand work closer with Cambodia to ensure peace, cooperation anddevelopment in their border areas, he said, adding that he hopes theCambodian National Assembly will support the plan connecting the twoeconomies as built by the countries’ Governments.

Onthe occasion of Cambodia ’s traditional New Year festival Chol ChnamThmay, PM Nguyen Tan Dung sent his best wishes to King NorodomSihamoni, the Queen Mother, and the country’s leaders.

For his part, Heng Samrin voiced his delight at the development ofbilateral ties while thanking Vietnam for helping Cambodia escapefrom the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in the past.

The Cambodian National Assembly supports the cooperative ties betweenthe two countries, he noted, saying he believes that their trade targetof 5 billion USD within the year will be attainable.-VNA

To further advance bilateral ties in the new era, the two leaders agreed to continue making full use of existing cooperation mechanisms across all channels, including meetings between the two Parties, promote exchanges between young leaders and youth from both countries, and expand cooperation between their legislative, executive and judicial bodies, people’s organisations and localities.

This is PM Hung’s first official visit to Cambodia. It holds particular significance, demonstrating the high priority that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam attach to relations with Cambodia and contributing to further deepening the bilateral ties of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”.
