Prime Minister pays tribute to former Lao leader

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc led a delegation of Vietnamese officials to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam on July 25 to pay tribute to the late former Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos Xaman Vinhaket.

Vinhaket was a former Politburo member and former head of the Steering Committee for Ideology, Theory and Culture of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee.

The PM wrote in the book of condolences to express his mourning for the death of the former Lao leader, saying that Vinhaket’s death is a great loss for the Lao Party, State, and people as well as his family, while Vietnam has lost a close friend who contributed to fostering friendship between the two countries.

The same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent a wreath to the ceremony.

Delegations from the Party Central Committee’s Commissions for External Affairs and Information and Education, the Presidential Office and the National Assembly Office, those from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Defence, the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee, the Liaison Committee for former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts in Laos, among others also paid tribute to the late leader at the ceremony at the Embassy.-VNA
