Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged the police to quickly fix their weaknesses to firmly maintain national security, and social safety and order.

The leader attended a get-together held by the Ministry of Public Security to mark the 69 th traditional day of the Vietnam People’s Police in Hanoi on August 16.

He appreciated contributions made by the sector to the national defence and construction, underlining the need to thwart hostile forces’ schemes against the State and smash gangsters’ rings, especially organised ones.

The PM asked the ministry to pay heed to building up the regular, modern and elite police in order to soundly perform tasks assigned by the Party and State.

At the event, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang said the country is dealing with new challenges, especially complicated developments in the East Sea and an increase in negative phenomena stemming from the market economy and international integration.

The public security force, therefore, will continue renovating itself to ensure security and order in all fields, prevent and push back plans and attempts that could cause political instability in the country, Quang stated.

On the occasion, the Minister presented the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” to several units and individuals in recognition of their service to the sector./.
