- The 40th session of the 15th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee closed in Hanoi on December 11 after two days of working.
Concluding the session, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the NA Standing Committee completed the set agenda, including reviewing the legislature’s eighth session and discussing the preparations for the ninth one, approving its working programme and external affairs programme for 2025, as well as external relations and international cooperation activities for the NA's Ethnic Minority Council, committees, General Secretary, parliamentary friendship groups, and Office, and agencies of the NA Standing Committee. - The 15th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee reviewed the legislature’s eighth session and discuss the preparations for the ninth session on December 11 during its 40th meeting.
Delivering a report summarising the eighth session, NA General Secretary and Chairman of the NA Office Le Quang Tung stated that after 29.5 days of serious, urgent, scientific, democratic, and responsible work, with the spirit of continuous renovation and improvement to meet the ever-growing demands of reality, the session was a success. - Vietnam has made remarkable strides across areas, not only in trade growth and attracting investment but also in raising per capita income, an Indian scholar has said.
Prof. Reena Marwah from the University of Delhi, who is also Secretary-General of the Association of Asia Scholars (AAS), told the Vietnam News Agency that the social progress in Vietnam is highly commendable as in less than 40 years of implementing its Doi Moi (renewal) process since 1986, Vietnam has achieved remarkable accomplishments. - The Party, State, and people of Vietnam strongly support Laos's renovation efforts, Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Chief of its Office told Lao leaders on December 11 during his two-day visit to the country.
Hosted by General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone in Vientiane, Ngoc congratulated Laos on attaining significant, comprehensive achievements after nearly 40 years of renovation and fulfilling its responsibilities as ASEAN Chair in 2024, contributing to maintaining solidarity and promoting cooperation within ASEAN, and enhancing Laos' role and status on the international stage. - Malaysian history and international politics researcher Enzo Sim Hong Jun from Penang Institute has emphasised the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA)'s contributions to the national building and safeguarding as well as to UN peacekeeping activities.
During an interview with the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of the VPA (December 22, 1944 - 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the All People’s Defence Festival (December 22, 1989 - 2024), the researcher affirmed the important role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the struggle for national independence, initially against French colonialism and later against American imperialism. - The Department of Water Resources Management under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam organised a workshop to exchange experiences in groundwater management in Hanoi on December 11.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Department of Water Resources Management Ngo Manh Ha said that socio-economic development in the recent past has led to increased groundwater extraction. Meanwhile, urbanisation has resulted in surface cementation, reducing rainwater and surface water infiltration into groundwater and subsequently leading to a decline in water levels and degradation of groundwater aquifers.
