The python molurus bivittatus, which is being bred for export inVietnam , is one of several species of pythons to be prohibited frombeing imported into the United States .
According to an announcement released recently by the Convention onInternational Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora(CITES), four species of pythons, including the eunectes notaeus, pythonmolurus, python natalensis and python sebae, are considered as "harmfulwild animals" by the US .
The announcementspecifies prohibition in the import of live specimens, including theirsperm, eggs and hybrid specimens into the US , and the transport ofthese animals through the US to other countries.
The import of dead specimens and products made from the parts of dead pythons, however, are not prohibited.
Following the announcement, the Vietnam Administration of Forestryunder the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on April 15requested departments in cities and provinces to send relevantannouncements about the US 's new regulation to facilitateadjustments of company production plans.
Localdepartments were also requested to conduct more inspections andsupervision in the breeding and trading of wild animals to preventviolations of Vietnamese laws and CITES rules.-VNA
