A requiem for the souls of traffic accidents will be held at Vinh Nghiem pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9.
The event, jointly organised by the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), is part of activities in response to World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents, which falls on the third Sunday of November.
It will see the participation of over 3,000 of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers and relatives of traffic accident victims.
The event is call on agencies from central to local levels, organisations, individuals and the entire people to raise awareness of abiding by traffic regulations on traffic safety and order as well as sharing the grief suffered by victims’ families, Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the committee, said.
Road accidents kill 1.3 million people every year the world over, a figure which is forecast to climb to 1.8-1.9 million in the near future. In Vietnam, 9,000 people die in road accidents every year, more than 20 per day on average.-VNA
