The Republic of Korea (RoK) government will carry out investigations on the case of a Vietnamese bride killed by her Korean husband and inform the Vietnamese side about the results of the investigations as soon as possible.
The affirmation was made by Park Hae Yun, Director of the South Asia and Pacific Division under the RoK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, while visiting the Vietnamese Embassy in Seoul on May 24 to offer sympathy to the victim.
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), 23-year-old bride named Hoang Thi Nam in Thang Hai commune, Phan Thiet city, the central province of Binh Thuan , was stabbed by her 37-year-old Korean husband early on May 24 in Cheongdo district in Gyeongsangbuk province. The victim gave birth to their son just 19 days ago.
At present, the murderer, Lim Chae Won, has been detained by police for investigations.
Right after receiving the news, the MoFA instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK to urgently coordinate with local authorised agencies to clarify the incident.
The Vietnamese Embassy sent a representative to the site to witness an autopsy on the victim’s body and work with the local authorities to undertake procedures and identify her records and native village.
The Vietnamese government has paid much attention to Vietnamese citizens who are living and working in the RoK, including Vietnamese brides.
In the face of recent incidents for Vietnamese brides who get married to Korean husbands, Vietnam’s high-ranking leaders have asked the RoK side to strengthen measures to protect Vietnamese citizens in the country, especially Vietnamese brides.
The RoK government has set up a working team, including representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, to check, reorganise and clean up international marriage brokerage activities in order to protect foreign brides as well as build legal documents relating to foreign marriage and multi-cultural families.
Over the past years, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK has actively supported the Vietnamese community, including coordinating with local authorities to help Vietnamese brides soon stabilise their lives and integrate into the RoK society./.
