RoK to welcome back 5,000 Vietnamese guest workers

The Republic of Korea (RoK) this year will receive over 5,000 Vietnamese guest workers who had returned home as scheduled, said a Vietnamese official in Hanoi on January 31.

Phan Van Minh,Director of the Vietnamese Overseas Labour Centre under the Ministry ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said his centre and the RoK’s HumanResource Development Service will hold a computer-based Korean languagetest in early March for those who wish to apply for jobs again.

Last year, 2,600 Vietnamese workers who left the RoK on time tookKorean language tests and more than 500 workers of those who passedreturned to the RoK.

In the first quarter of thisyear, the Vietnamese Overseas Labour Centre and the Overseas LabourManagement Department will hold conferences in 15 cities and provinceswith a high number of workers living illegally in the RoK in a move tocall on them to come back.-VNA

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.

Vietnam among countries with high human development: UNDP report

According to the report, which evaluates human development progress based on the Human Development Index (HDI), tracking achievements in health, education and income, Vietnam’s HDI in 2023 reached 0.766, ranking 93rd out of 193 countries and territories. This marked a substantial leap from 0.499 in 1990, representing a 53.5% increase, a notable trajectory of growth over more than three decades.
