A fleet of 50 Republic of Korean firms came to Ho Chi Minh City on November 22 to attend a conference boosting trade between the two countries.

The firms mainly focus on farm produce, food processing, furniture, handicrafts, electronics and machinery.

At the conference - which was jointly held by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and the RoK Association of Importers (Koima) – Koima Chairman Shinn Tae-yong said the event is both a venue for trade exchange between businesses and an opportunity to receive more useful information about potential partners and the business environment.

The conference creates room for the two countries’ business communities to expand export-import operations, said Bui Thanh An, Vietrade deputy head.

In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam’s exports to the RoK raked in 5.49 billion USD, up 25 percent year-on-year, while its import value hit 17.26 billion USD, up 40 percent.

Two-way trade is projected to stand at 27 billion USD in 2013 and climb to 70 billion USD by 2020, according to RoK Consul General in the City Oh Jae Hack.-VNA
