Runner secures gold medal in Asian athletics championships

Hanoi (VNA) – RunnerQuach Thi Lan won a gold medal at women’s 400m hurdles at the ongoing 2019 AsianAthletics Championships in Doha, Qatar on April 22 (local time).

She was viewed as the favourite inthe final as the silver medallist of the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD).

Lan clinched her gold with a time of56.10s. Bahraini Jamal Aminat, who bagged a bronze medal at the 2018 ASIAD,finished second in 56.39s.

Earlier, Le Tu Chinh contested in thewomen’s 100m semi-final. However, she failed to book a spot in the final with atime of 11.69s, slower than her best performance at the National SportsFestival last year.

The 2019 Asian AthleticsChampionships is taking place in Qatar from April 21-25 with the participationof athletes from 63 countries and territories. Athletes’ times and scores inthis tournament go towards qualification for the 2019 World Championship andthe Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

A total 12 Vietnam runners arecompeting at the event, including Le Tu Chinh,Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Van Lai, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Thi Hue, among others.-VNA
