Hanoi (VNA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on July 25 had a meeting on the sidelines of 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-57) and relevant meetings in Laos.

Wang said that China-Russia relations are stable, resilient, and independent, contributing to international cooperation.

He noted that in the face of the volatile and complex international situation, China is ready to work with Russia to uphold the everlasting good neighborliness and friendship, and remain each other's good partner for development and revitalisation.

China and Russia, both important countries in the Asia-Pacific and dialogue partners of ASEAN, can maintain communication and coordination on East Asia cooperation, said Wang.

For his part, Lavrov said under the strategic guidance of their leaders, Russia and China have maintained close communication, strengthened strategic collaboration, jointly upheld a fair and just international order, practiced genuine multilateralism, and injected positive energy into the building of a multipolar world.

Russia will work with China to support the centrality of ASEAN and prevent the interference and infiltration of external forces, he noted.

The two sides expressed the willingness to strengthen cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS - an intergovernmental organisation comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The two sides also exchanged views on major issues concerning peace and security.

They also had a trilateral meeting with their Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith, where they pledged to strengthen cooperation to contribute to regional stability and prosperity, and responding to risks and challenges./.
