Hanoi (VNA) – Russia welcomes the intention of both US President Donald Trump and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un to continue bilateral dialogue on the Korean Peninsula’s situation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on February 28.
"We positively evaluate the disposition of the US President and the top leader of the DPRK to continue the US-DPRK dialogue," Zakharova was cited by China’s Xinhua news agency as saying at a press conference.
The dialogue must be supported by concrete measures, Zakharova said, adding that resolving the problems on the Korean Peninsula takes time and needs maximum restraint by all the parties involved.
The same day, China has also expressed its hope that the US and the DPRK will keep talking about the nuclear issue, which, it said, will not be solved overnight.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said he had yet to hear what US President Donald Trump or DPRK leader Kim Jong-un had to say about their second meeting in Hanoi.
However, he hoped that everyone can realise that the nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula has been going on for many years, and that solving this problem is definitely not something that can be achieved overnight.
It is not an easy process, otherwise it would not have dragged on until today, Lu said.
Lu reiterated Beijing’s call for Washington and Pyongyang to take care of each other’s legitimate concerns, and continue to maintain such a dialogue.-VNA
