The March 9 event was co-organised by the Russian Centre ofScience and Culture and the Phu nu (Women)’s Publishing House.
The works included selected Lev Tolstoy plays, SergeyEsenin’s poetry collection, Valentine Rasputin’s “Ivan’s daughter, Ivan’smother” novel and a monograph by Andrey Venhediktovich Fedorov, “Fundamentaltheory of translation”.
The programme also introduced translations by femaletranslator Phan Xuan Loan, such as “Birth” (author Alexei Varlamov), “Diary ofthe mother-in-law” and “Wife, lover and perfectgentleman” (author Maria Metlitskaya), “Last witnesses” (author SvetlanaAlexievich), and several other works.
Speaking at the event, Popov Aleksey Vladimirovich, RussianConsul General to Ho Chi Minh City, said in recent years, many Vietnamesepeople have gained an understanding of classic literature from Russia. ModernRussian literary works have also become more and more popular in Vietnam,which, he said, helps promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The Russian diplomat extended his thanks to the Vietnamesetranslators for their efforts to convey Russian literary works to Vietnamesereaders, voicing his hope that the translators would continue contributing toVietnam-Russia exchanges and cooperation across literature and art.
Meanwhile, Hoang Tinh Thuy from the Women’s Publishing Housesaid that Russian literary works have helped Vietnamese people learn more aboutthe nation and people of Russia.
She said modern Russian literary works are beloved byVietnamese readers, contributing to developing the culture-art exchange betweenthe two countries.-VNA
