Russian President D.Medvedev has sent a message of condolences to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet over recent tragic consequences triggered by the Ketsana Typhoon in Central Vietnam.

In his message dated October 2, the Russian President wrote: “I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of victims and wish that those who suffer from injuries will soon recover.”

He affirmed that Russia is ready to help its friend, Vietnam, to surmount the consequences of the natural disaster.

As of October 4, a total of 163 people were killed and 17 others missing as Typhoon Ketsana slammed to the central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam, according to the National Flood and Storm Control Steering Committee.

Efforts to rescue people and overcome the consequences in the hard-hit regions are being intensified. Around 4,100 kg of relief goods are transported to the flooded areas in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.

Local authorities in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Ngai allocated budgets to assist families of the victims of the tropical storm, providing relief aid such as medicine, food and chemicals to pasteurise the environment.

The Quang Tri authorities have also assisted two Lao neighbouring provinces of Salavan and Savalakhet which were also stricken by the storm.

Meanwhile, another storm named Parma is entering north eastern region of the East Sea, threatening Vietnam’s coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control urged all relevant localities, ministries and agencies to stay alert to the storm, inform ship owners of its direction and maintain close contacts with the later./.
