The “Meet Vietnam” organisation handed over Odon Vallet scholarships to 214 excellent students in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 31.
Launched in 2011 by French Professor Odon Vallet, this is the 12th time the scholarship fund has reached out to disadvantaged students in the province.
The eminent students received scholarships worth nearly 1.8 billion VND (80,000 USD) in total. Of these, 77 scholarships were valued at 11 million VND (500 USD) each while 137 senior high school students received 7 million VND (300 USD).
“Meet Vietnam ” also covered the educational expenses of 17 Vietnamese students who are studying at France ’s National Valde Loire School of Engineering.
In addition, the French-based organisation provided a “collective scholarship fund” worth 840 million VND (40,000 USD) in the form of two libraries at the Hue National School for the Gifted and Hai Ba Trung senior high school, both in Hue city.
The Odon Vallet fund has so far granted scholarships to 15,000 students across the nation.
The fund came to Vietnam via the “Meet Vietnam” organisation founded by overseas Vietnamese Professor Tran Thanh Van.
On August 30 in the central province of Binh Thuan , up to 350 poor students excelling in study were also offered scholarships, each worth 3.5-4 million VND (160 – 190 USD) sourced from the Study Encouragement Fund.
Three years after its launch, the fund raised a total 37 billion VND (176,000 USD) to assist 42,600 poor and outstanding students in the locality.
At the awards ceremony, Japan ’s Marubeni education foundation also donated nearly 120 million VND in scholarships.-VNA
