SEA Games 31: Four more gold medals for Vietnamese runners

Runners earned Vietnam additional four gold medals on May 16, raising the country’s total golds at SEA Games 31 in athletics to 13.

Hanoi (VNA) – Runners earned Vietnam additional fourgold medals on May 16, raising the country’s total golds at SEA Games 31 in athleticsto 13.

The third day of athletics competition witnessed the rise ofyoung runners. Among them was Le Tien Long, who triumphed the men’s 3,000msteeplechase, clocking 9 minutes and 2.84 seconds. It is the first gold medalthe 21-year-old athlete from the central province of Ha Tinh has ever secured in his career.

SEA Games 30 gold medalist Do Quoc Luat finishedsecond with the time of 9 minutes and 6.44 seconds.

Vu Thi Ngoc Ha also overcame ASIAD 18 champion Bui Thi ThuThao to dominate the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.39m, 1cm farther than hersenior teammate. It is Ha’s first SEA Games gold.

The Vietnamese team received two other golds on the sameday, one won by Bui Thi Nguyen in the women’s 100m hurdles with the time of13.51 seconds and the remainder by Khuat Phuong Anh in the women’s 800m, 2minutes and 8.74 seconds.

Vietnam have so far claimed the highest number of medals inathletics – 13 golds, 11 silvers and three bronzes. The team aim for 15 –17 SEA Games golds this year.

They are followed by Thailand with nine golds,five silvers and three bronzes; and the Philippines, three golds, four silversand ten bronzes./.

Vietnam proposes priorities to strengthen international cooperation on world heritage conservation

On behalf of Vietnam, the deputy minister proposed three priorities of strengthening international cooperation and capacity-building for member states, particularly developing countries; promoting science-based conservation that strikes a balance between preservation and development while placing local communities at the centre; and enhancing coordination among relevant conventions and programmes, alongside the responsible application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in heritage conservation.

Vietnam attends multicultural festival in Germany as guest of honour

The Vietnamese booth attracted a large number of visitors with traditional dishes such as "nem cuon" (fresh spring rolls) and "bun cha" (grilled pork with vermicelli), along with displays of ao dai (traditional long dress), conical hats and cultural performances imbued with Vietnamese identity. These activities helped spread Vietnamese culture and foster understanding and closer ties between the Vietnamese community, German residents and international friends.

Beyond preservation: Unlocking the value of Vietnam's heritage

Dr. Nguyen Thu Hanh, Director of the Centre for Research and Development of Vietnam Cultural Industry (SDCI), said Vietnam has traditionally focused on preserving heritage rather than creating new value from it.
