The Border Guard of the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang and relevant agencies have made every effort in encouraging fishermen to strictly comply with regulations on seafood exploitation at sea to ensure no violations relating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in foreign waters.

The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang will exploit more than 124,000 tonnes of seafood of all kinds in 2023.

Total fishing output in the first five months of the year increased 2.4 percent year-on-year to 1.3 million tonnes due to favourable weather conditions, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

It is necessary to develop the fisheries sector based on three pillars of chain exploitation, processing aligned with the market and using science and technology to develop aquaculture, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong.
