Hanoi (VNA) – The agriculture industry posted a year-on-year growth of 2.68 percent in the first quarter of 2019, despite an array of difficulties caused by the African swine fever and unstable export markets, mainly driven by the seafood and forestry sector.
In January-March, the total seafood output reached 1.46 million tonnes, a yearly rise of 4.9 percent.
The export turnover of forestry products was estimated at 2.4 billion USD, up 18 percent against the same period last year.
The agro-forestry-fishery export turnover in the period went down 2.9 percent year-on-year to 8.8 billion USD due to reductions in rice, pepper, cashew nut, and coffee orders.
To ensure growth of more than 2.56 percent in the second quarter, the cultivation sector must double its efforts to maintain its set growth target of 1.93 percent, while the aquaculture arena needs to post a growth of 4.78 percent and the forestry sector, 5.8 percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. –VNA
