Hanoi (VNA) -
A national-level seminar entitled “V.I. Lenin’s Legacy: Theoretical and Practical Values” was organised on April 22 to mark his 150th birthday.

The event was jointly held by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, Central Theoretical Council, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

In his opening remarks, Politburo Member and Head of the Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong said that Lenin was a great thinker and leader of the working class and oppressed nations around the world.

For Vietnam, the content of his Preliminary Draft Theses on the National and Colonial Questions created a fundamental turning point in the consciousness, thought, and political stance of late President Ho Chi Minh as he sought ways to save the country.

Despite great changes in the world, Lenin’s thoughts continue to light the way in the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy, people’s welfare, social progress, and justice all over the world, he emphasised.

Celebrating Lenin’s 150th birthday in the context of globalisation, extensive international integration, and Industry 4.0 affirms his major contribution to the revolutionary struggle for human progress, Thuong said. He pointed out issues in Marxism-Leninism that need to be supplemented and developed to make them conform to Vietnam’s industrialisation, modernisation, and global integration.

Nguyen Xuan Thang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the HCMA and Chairman of Central Theoretical Council, delivered a speech on the creative application of Marxism-Leninism in Vietnam’s revolution.

Ninety years after its formation, the Communist Party of Vietnam remains well aware of the need to intensify the building of the Party and the political system in a strong and transparent manner, improve the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party, enhance the close relationship between the Party and the people, and rely on the people to build the Party.

Regarding the application of Lenin’s thoughts related to the relationship between politics and economics in the transition to socialism in Vietnam, Associate Professor and Dr Nguyen Chi Hieu from The Communist Review said that, along with Marxist theory, the Party has always applied Lenin’s thoughts to develop the theory of socialism and during the construction of realistic socialism in the country.

Lenin’s thoughts about the new-style Communist Party have been applied creatively, thus bringing about achievements in Party building and helping consolidate the role of the ruling Party, he added.

To mark Lenin’s 150th birthday, the Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a commemorative set of stamps.

Lenin, who was born on April 22, 1870 and died on January 21, 1924, masterminded the Bolshevik takeover of Russia in 1917. He was the architect and leader of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and was also a great teacher of workers worldwide./.
