Hanoi(VNA) – A thematic seminar on the close linkage between IPv6 (Internet Protocolversion 6) and the Internet of Things (IoT) industry took place in Hanoi on May5.
Speaking at theevent, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and head of the Committeeof the National IPv6 Task Force Phan Tam cited a report of the Asia-PacificNetwork Information Centre, which said that the rate of connections via IPv6 inVietnam neared 6 percent in March 2017, sometimes went up to 25 percent withmore than 2.5 million users, making the country the second in Southeast Asia,behind Malaysia, and the fifth in Asia, behind India, Japan, Malaysia and ArabSaudi.
He said it isnow time for Vietnam to catch up with the trend of technology in the world, butmany challenges remain for the domestic IT sector.
Participantsshared the latest information about IPv6, relevant policies in the 4.0 industrialrevolution, e-government, and IPv6’s importance to ensure the safety of IoTtechnological solutions.
Statistics fromGoogle showed that the rate of IPv6 usage worldwide currently stands at 20percent and is forecast to hit 100 percent by 2019.
Expertspredicted that when the world population hits 7.6 billion by 2020, 50 billiondevices will be connected to the internet.
IPv6 is theupgraded version of IPv4, which will help deal with IPv4 exhaustion. It isexpected to provide an important platform for the development of IoT,e-government, smart city and industrial revolution 4.0.-VNA
