A delegation of the Australian Government on July 1 had a working session with officials of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs in Hanoi, agreeing that short-term difficulties caused by the East Sea tension also offer a new opportunity for Vietnam to have a sustainable and independent economy.
The commission, led by its Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Bao, updated the guests on Vietnam’s economic situation, which is recovering in all spheres.
The country is focusing on economic renewal such as restructuring public investment, State-owned enterprises and the banking system; completing the socialism-oriented market mechanism; and equipping people with first-rate skills.
Vietnamese officials said they will work with authorised agencies to strengthen economic ties between Vietnam and Australia, and ask the visiting delegation to step up measures to boost their cooperation.
At the session, the Australian side, headed by Keith Scott – Assistant Secretary of the Southeast Asia Mainland Bilateral Branch under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade – expressed their admiration for Vietnam’s considerable economic strides.
Both sides shared their views on current hardships ignited by the East Sea developments and concurred that such a situation is also a chance for Australia to increase its presence in the promising market of Vietnam.-VNA
