Singapore, China enhance aviation cooperation

Singapore and China signed a memorandum of understanding on July 8 on collaboration to improve their air traffic management (ATM) capabilities, in the first such agreement of its kind between China and a Southeast Asian air navigation service provider.

Hanoi (VNA) - Singapore and China signed amemorandum of understanding on July 8 on collaboration to improve their airtraffic management (ATM) capabilities, in the first such agreement of its kindbetween China and a Southeast Asian air navigation service provider.

The agreement was signed by the Civil AviationAuthority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Air Traffic Management Bureau of theCivil Aviation Administration of China (ATMB/CAAC).

CAAS Director General KevinShum said both parties seek to develop new ATM concepts, solutions andtechnologies to progress ATM capabilities bilaterally and regionally.

They will also collaborate toenhance air traffic flow management, aviation safety standards, aviationtraining and aviation performance, he added.

In addition, the agenciessaid they will look to address the challenges and long-term implicationsthat the COVID-19 pandemic has had on air traffic management developmentalcapabilities.

The agreement will help to fulfill aglobal air navigation plan set out by the International Civil AviationOrganisation (ICAO).

On plans to improve the ATMcapabilities regionally, CAAS and ATMB/CAAC said they will work with otherpartners, such as ICAO and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, tocreate seamless air navigation services in the Asia-Pacific region./.
