Singapore (VNA) - Singapore and China signed ten agreements on health, food safety and environment, among other things, at their 16th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), the highest-level bilateral meeting between the two countries.
Held on December 8, the event was co-chaired by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Chinese Vice-Premier Han Zheng.
At the meeting, the two countries committed to working together in new areas like public health, seeking measures to boost connectivity and building strategies for a prosperous future.
The two sides considered cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative as well as joint work in economy, trade, innovation, finance, people-to-people exchange, and sustainable development.
They also discussed how Singapore can continue to contribute to China's development strategies in the region regarding their bilateral projects, such as the Singapore-China Shenzhen Smart City initiative.
The Singaporean official said digitalisation, connectivity, and sustainable development are increasingly important for their post-COVID-19 bilateral cooperation.
Concerning pandemic-related travel measures, Heng noted that Singapore and China will be discussing how to better utilise the existing fast lanes, increase flight frequency and restore normal people-to-people exchanges at an appropriate time.
This will contribute to the recovery of their economies and people's livelihoods, he said./.
