Jakarta (VNA) - The police in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta on November 7 announced the dismantling of the largest online gambling syndicate ever discovered, which involved several officials of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).
Police spokesperson Ade Ary Syam Indradi said that authorities seized a significant amount of valuable assets during the operation, including cash worth 73.7 billion IDR (4.7 million USD), 16 automobiles, and 11 luxury watches.
Two guns, 34 mobile phones, 23 laptops and 20 pictures were also confiscated, stated Ade, adding that among the 15 arrestees, 11 are from Komdigi.
On the same day, head of the Presidential Communication Office Hasan Nasbi reported that President Prabowo Subianto underscored four critical issues during a plenary cabinet meeting, emphasising a zero-tolerance approach to tackling online gambling, drugs, smuggling, and corruption.
The President has also called on law enforcement forces to act decisively on these four matters, added Hasan./.
