(Source: straitstimes photo/Ng Sor Luan) Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean launched the SGSecure Guide for Workplaces at the annual National Security Conference on September 26.
Developed by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the guidebook aims to help businesses raise their security preparedness.
To extend its SGSecure programme, which was launched last year, MOM now encourages 30,000 local companies to register a SGSecure representative by 2020. These representatives will be the point of contact with authorities in case of emergency, and will receive regular terror-related information to share with their colleagues.
Also by 2020, the ministry aims to have another 27,000 companies at a higher level of preparedness, whose action points are laid out in the new SGSecure Guide for Workplaces.
Five priority sectors, which are more likely to be targeted by terrorists, were identified by the ministry as food and beverage, retail, entertainment, hotels and transport.
Teo Chee Hean said in his speech at the conference that terrorist threat to Singapore is at the highest level in over a decade. Since 2015, 11 Singaporeans have been detained and six were issued with Restriction Orders. -VNA
