Singapore (VNA) – Singapore is striving to address its energy shortages by accelerating projects using solar energy.

Singaporean Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing said on June 5 that the country will expand areas for installation of solar energy devices.

Besides, Singapore is also studying a project to turn buildings’ surface into systems generating electricity from solar energy.

The Southeast Asian country is currently home to seven power plants. However, all of them depend on imported natural gas to generate electricity.

In addition, the expansion of reservoirs and use of technology to turn sea water into drinking water are said to worsen the country’s energy crisis in the future.

Over the past 50 years, Singapore has spent two third of its area to create reservoirs to keep rain water in a bid to overcome water shortages.-VNA
