Singapore (VNA) - The Monetary Authority of Singapore has warned consumers to raise alert to e-mails asking for private information related to bank accounts.

In a statement on May 7, the body said these e-mails are purportedly sent from banks, asking consumers to update their personal particulars including information on their bank accounts, online banking user names and passwords.

Some of them claim that it is an MAS requirement for bank customers to do so, it added.

MAS recommended customers who receive such e-mails should not follow the instructions and should report promptly to their banks.

Recently, the Singaporean authorities also warned the public of scam calls from people impersonating police officers.-VNA
