Hanoi (VNA) – Ministerof Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Chung Eui-yong and hisSingaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan held phone talks on April 13,discussing joint efforts to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation.

The RoK Foreign Minister’s Officeannounced that during the conversation, the two officials noted their countrieshave maintained substantive cooperation in such areas as infrastructure and thedigital economy.

They expressed hopes that the suspended expeditedentry system agreed upon between the two sides in exception to coronavirusquarantining could resume at an early date.

Minister Chung asked for Singapore's closecooperation in the RoK’s push for its New Southern Policy involving SoutheastAsian partners. He also explained his country’s Korean Peninsulapeace efforts.

For his part, Balakrishnan said Singapore supports such effortsand wishes for the resumption of inter-Korean communication./.

Malaysia's layoffs rise 47% in first quarter

The report, based on figures from Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation, showed layoffs peaked in January with around 10,700 cases before easing to 7,500 in February and 5,900 in March.
