Small earthquake occurs in Dien Bien

Dien Bien (VNA) –
An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale was reported at the adjacent area between Quynh Nhai and Tua Chua districts in the north-western provinces of Dien Bien and Son La on September 24.

The quake occurred at 12:04 am and lasted for about two seconds, according to head of the Dien Bien Phu Seismic Observation Station Nguyen Thai Son.

The epicentre was measured at 21.938 degrees North latitude and 103.547 degrees East longitude, with a depth of about seven kilometres, he said.

“This is a small earthquake with short aftershock, hence causing no damage on households or infrastructure facilities. However, people in Tua Chua district still could feel the quake shaking lightly”, he said.

He noted that 3-4-magnitude earthquakes normally occur in the province.

Earlier Dien Bien Dong, Muong Lay and Muong Cha districts were hit by four earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.9 and 3.9 on the Richter scale.-VNA
