Hanoi (VNA) – A 2.3-magnitude earthquake was reported offshore the central province of Ha Tinh on the early morning of October 22, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre.

Nguyen Hong Phuong, deputy head of the Centre, said that the quake occurred at 3:42am in the waters about 5km off the coast of Cam Xuyen district with a seismic focus at a depth of 8km.

With a small magnitude, such kind of the quake can not result in a tsunami, cause human and asset losses, or affect locals’ daily life, he affirmed.

However, he added that relevant units are working to find out reasons behind the earthquake as the province, which is known to rarely suffer earthquakes, was also hit by a tremor on the morning of October 18.
