Hanoi (VNA) – A text message campaign was launched in Hanoi on June 26 to raise funds in support of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims.
The Central Committee of Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA) and the National Humanitarian Portal 1400 called on organisations and individuals to support the campaign by texting DA CAM to 1409 from June 22 to August 20, 2018.
Each message will add 18,000 VND to the fund.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of VAVA, said the association has run the SMS campaign since 2011, collecting nearly 18 billion VND (784,800 USD) over the past seven years.
He called on Vietnamese people at home and abroad as well as international friends to support the programme to help AO/dioxin victims.
At the ceremony, the association presented certificates of merit to five collectives and one individual in recognition of their assistance for AO/dioxin victims in 2017 as well as gift packages to the victims.
In 2018, the association aims to raise 1.5 billion VND (65,475 USD) to provide medical check-ups and treatment, medicine and savings books for AO victims and help them upgrade houses.
