SMS campaign launched to support COVID-19 prevention

A text message campaign to call for public support for the country’s fight against the acute respiratory disease (COVID) caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was launched in Hanoi on March 19.

Hanoi (VNA) - A text messagecampaign to call for public support for the country’s fightagainst the acute respiratory disease (COVID) caused by the novel coronavirusSARS-CoV-2 was launched in Hanoi on March 19.

The Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Fatherland FrontCentral Committee’s Standing Board, the Health Ministry, and the Vietnam RedCross Society jointly launched the campaign with the aim of raising funds tosupport COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

The campaign is taking place from March 19 to June 18, 2020.

Supporters can join the programme by texting “CV n” to 1407, of which “n” isthe number of support. Each text message will contribute at least 20,000 VND (0.86USD) to the fund.

All the money pooled by the programme will be used to buy medical equipment,necessities and support COVID-19 patients and those undergoing quarantine.

In his speech at the launching ceremony, President of the Vietnam FatherlandFront Central Committee Tran Thanh Man appreciated relevant agencies fororganizing the campaign, saying that it will significantly contribute to preventingthe epidemic.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front had also launched a fund-raising programme on March17, which has so far raised over 282 billion VND (over 12 million USD), hesaid./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
