SOM 3 to continue with APEC cooperation issues

The APEC-2017 third Senior Officials’ Meeting and related meetings (SOM3), slated for August 18-30 in Ho Chi Minh City, will continue accelerating the implementation of cooperation contents of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), said the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hanoi (VNA) – The third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and relatedmeetings (SOM 3), slated for August 18-30 in Ho Chi Minh City, will continueaccelerating the implementation of cooperation contents of the Asia-PacificEconomic Cooperation (APEC), said the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le ThiThu Hang. 

Ata regular press conference in Hanoi on August 20, the spokesperson said SOM 3will also work on priorities approved at SOM 1 and SOM 2 while setting forththe content and programme of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week scheduled in thecentral city of Da Nang in November this year.

Therewill be 75 meetings of four committees, 38 working groups and sub-groups duringthe 13-day event, she said.

Thefirst Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Senior Officials’ Meeting andrelated meetings (SOM-1) took place in the central coastal city of Nha Trangfrom February 18-March 3.

Theevent attracted more than 1,900 delegates from 21 member economies,representatives from the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council, the APECBusiness Advisory Council, regional and global organisations, and businesses.

It was the first plenary meeting of APEC in 2017 with nearly 60 sessions,seminars and dialogues of 38 APEC committees and working groups.

Meanwhile,SOM 2 was held in Hanoi from May 9-18 with nearly 50 meetings and workshops.

Theevent drew about 2,300 delegates from 21 member economies, the businesscommunity, scholars as well as representatives from international organisationsand ministries and sectors of host Vietnam. -VNA
