Southeast Asia, EU shake hands in migration, development

Delegates from Southeast Asian countries and the European Union participated in discussions on strengthening cooperation in migration and development during a two-day conference in Jakarta that started on August 29.
Delegates from Southeast Asian countries and the European Union participated in discussions on strengthening cooperation in migration and development during a two-day conference in Jakarta that started on August 29.

Over 60 delegates focused on such issues as cooperation in migration and development in the Southeast Asian region and EU, challenges during the resolution of migration; and the impacts of migrant labour on development.

The conference also highlighted the coordination among relevant parties in efforts to protect the rights of migrant workers.

This event is part of a series of three conferences held to promote discussion and information sharing on various aspects of migration and development in Southeast Asia and the EU.

The first event was held in the Philippines in December 2012. Vietnam will host the third event this December.-VNA
