Southeast Asia: Indonesia reports highest daily COVID-19 cases on May 5

Indonesia recorded 484 new cases of COVID-19 on May 5, the highest number in a day so far, taking the total tally to 12,071.

Hanoi (VNA) –Indonesia recorded 484 new cases of COVID-19 on May 5, the highest number in aday so far, taking the total tally to 12,071.
           
The same day, 8 patientsdied of the disease, bringing the fatalities in the country due to COVID-19 to872, while the number of recovered patients reached 2,197.

Meanwhile, Singaporereported an additional 632 new cases during the day, raising the total numberto 19,410,

The number of cases inthe Philippines rose to 9,684 and fatalities increased to 637 after 199 newinfections and 14 more deaths were confirmed on May 5.
                       
In Malaysia, whererestrictions on movement and business were eased on May 4, 30 new COVID-19cases were reported along with one death, bringing the numbers of infectionsand deaths to 6,383 and 106, respectively.
           
The situationcontinued to change for the better in Thailand when the country recorded onlyone new case on May 5, the lowest in a day since March 9, while no death fromCOVID-19 has been reported for five consecutive days.  

Thailand so far has2,988 COVID-19 patients, with 54 deaths, while 2,747 patients have been cured./.
