HCM City (VNA) – The Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) is set to visit Ho Chi Minh City from November 11-14 as part of its voyage through five Southeast Asian countries and Japan.
This year’s programme, the 43rd so far, draws the participation of 328 delegates from the 10 ASEAN member nations and Japan, Tran Hoang Khanh Van, head of the international relations division at the municipal chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, told media on November 8.
The ship is scheduled to arrive at Cat Lai port on November 11 morning, and a welcoming ceremony will be held later the same day.
During their stay, the delegates will join in exchanges and discussions with local youths about young businesses, cultural exchange promotion, environment – natural disaster mitigation, food and nutrition, health – HIV/AIDS prevention, ASEAN – Japan cooperation, education at school, and information and communications.
Meanwhile, the homestay experience will give them an insight into the local life and culture, Van said.
Vietnam is the first stop of the ship, which began its trip in Japan and will come to the next destination in Bangkok, Thailand.
The SSEAYP is a cooperation programme between the governments of the 10 ASEAN nations and Japan with a view to fostering the friendship among their youths. It was first organised in 1974, and Vietnam has been part of it since 1995.-VNA
