State President demands maximum efforts to sustain anti-COVID-19 achievements

Da Nang (VNA)– President Nguyen Xuan Phuc inspected anti-COVID-19 efforts in the centralcity of Da Nang on April 30, requesting the entire health sector to maximise effortsto maintain the obtained achievements in the coronavirus combat.

Reporting to theState President and officials from the Health Ministry and the city, leaders ofthe Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases said the hospital has done a good job oftreating COVID-19 patients, noting that it is currently providing treatment for58 patients, 14 of whom have tested negative for the virus thrice.

Secretary of the DaNang Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang said the city will upgrade this hospitalso as to better meet the need for medical examination and treatment, includingfor COVID-19 patients.

President Phucpointed out very high risks of coronavirus transmission since the pandemic isdeveloping complicatedly around the globe while Vietnam shares a long borderlinewith some countries hit hard by the pandemic, and it is also intensivelyintegrating into the world.

Applauding Da Nang’santi-COVID-19 measures, he stressed that as it is a major tourism hub with alarge number of visitors and hundreds of fully booked flights, the city as wellas big municipalities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Can Tho muststay ready to take actions if there are any new cases.

He repeated the spirit of “fighting the pandemic is like fighting an enemy” andtold the Ministry of Health and Da Nang to combat the disease in the strongestmanner like what have been done in the recent past.

That the healthsector must stay ready in any circumstance and exert all-out efforts tomaintain the obtained achievements and prevent the disease from returning, theleader said, warning that a health crisis would lead to an economic crisis.

The President alsodemanded expanding the vaccination to more groups while continuing to importvaccines so as to proactively prevent new outbreaks.

In Hanoi, after two people having direct contact with Patient 2911, who worksat Thang Long Industrial Park and was confirmed on late April 29, testedpositive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, local authorities have beentaking prompt actions.

Vice Chairman of themunicipal People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung on April 30 asked leaders of DongAnh district and Thang Long Industrial Park to swiftly trace contacts of thetwo suspected cases, and that if these suspected cases are confirmed, contracttracing must be completed by 5pm on April 30.

He demanded relevantsector and Dong Anh district make drastic efforts to curb the transmission, increaseexamination, and fine any person ignoring disease prevention and control measures.

Patient2911 earlier had close contact with Patient2899, who finished his quarantine period after arriving in Vietnam and returnedhome in northern Ha Nam province but then was found to be positive for thevirus.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh Citydecided to temporarily close bars, karaoke parlours, and discos from 6pm onApril 30 after one case of COVID-19 was recorded in Binh Tan district.

The new patient in HCM City,No 2910, was confirmed on April 29 afternoon. Earlier, this patient also metPatient 2899.

As of April 30 morning, HaNam province had recorded two more COVID-19 infections and one suspectedcase linked with the hotbed in Dao Ly commune of Ly Nhan district, raising thetotal cases there to seven.

During the night of April 29,local authorities collected samples for COVID-19 testing from the 1,068residents in Quan Nhan hamlet of Dao Ly commune, where Patient 2899 resides.

The Health Ministry also sentexperts from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to help theprovince with testing and contact tracing./.

All People’s Health Day promotes early disease prevention

Free cancer screening, health checks to benefit 10,000 people in Hanoi

Participants will receive comprehensive health checks through a streamlined one-stop process, including blood pressure measurement, height and weight assessment, BMI and cardiovascular risk evaluation, blood tests, general examinations and specialist consultations in internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dentistry and oncology. Rapid blood glucose testing and biochemical screening will also be conducted to detect diabetes and metabolic disorders.

Over 25,000 hand, foot and mouth disease cases posted in 3 months

In the first three months, more than 25,000 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been recorded nationwide. Of the total cases, around 18,000, or nearly 72%, were concentrated in southern provinces. The disease has primarily affected children aged between one and five.
