State President welcomes US businesspeople

State President Truong Tan Sang received a delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) led by its President Alexander Feldman, in Hanoi on September 8.

At a reception for the largest-ever US business delegation to Vietnam, including representatives from nearly 40 large groups and corporations, President Sang stressed that Vietnam attaches importance to relations with the US and wishes the bilateral ties will further develop in the future, bringing practical benefits to the two countries’ people and contributing to peace, national independence, democracy and social progress in the world.

He said he is pleased with positive developments in the Vietnam-US relationship, especially in economics trade, education, science and technology, and humanitarian activities.

The Vietnamese Party and State pursue a consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development and being a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community, he affirmed.

The State leader spoke highly of effective contributions made by the USABC and US businesses to fostering the relationship between the two countries, especially in the fields of economics trade and investment.

Welcoming US companies to seek long-term business opportunities in Vietnam, President Sang affirmed that Vietnam is determined to stabilise the macro-economy and maintain a rapid and sustainable economic development in an effort to becoming an industrialised country by 2020.

He suggested US companies assist Vietnam in socio-economic development, international integration, completing the market economic institution, surmounting war consequences and coping with global challenges such as climate change and environmental pollution, helping raise the bilateral ties to a new height.

Alexander Feldman affirmed US businesses wish to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese partners in all aspects.

US businesses consider Vietnam a potential partner and market and appreciate the country’s macroeconomic stabilisation measures, he said, adding that they want to invest in Vietnam’s priority areas, especially infrastructure building and human resource development.

The USABC commits if self to continue support for Vietnam in socio-economic development, international integration and dealing with global issues, he said.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also received the USABC delegation./.
